Manic Monday: Madelyne

Shirt: Shabby Apple/ Skirt: GAP/ Earrings: Downeast home/
Shoes: DSW/ Suitcase: Vintage

My brain rarely functions on a Monday morn...so I am starting "Manic Monday" where some of my favorite people can feature how THEY like to dress! To start off our series we have Madels, AKA my sister, and of course, the bangles original music video, manic monday. How could this post be complete without it?
I know this was out of her comfort zone but doesn't she look fabulous!? Take it away Madels...

HELLO! For those of you who don't know me, dressing up and posing for pictures is not one of my everyday activities. I am definitely the kind of girl that loves pony tails and t-shirts, along with goofy poses and silly faces, so this my blogger people, shows what a great friend I am! Ok, just kidding, it was actually pretty fun, but when Mal asked me to be on her blog, I was definitely nervous. To ease my fears, I went with one of my favorite, simple, dressed-up outfits. Once I was dressed, we stole one of my mom's vintage suitcases and headed for the mountains. As always, It's an adventure with me and Mal. She's trying to get me to not look so awkward while I'm trying to balance on a wobbly suitcase while surrounded by weeds and the stance looks of mountain goers who were passing by. I'm sure it appeared as quite the circus act. But that's just our friendship for ya! Thanks for reading!

Sunday Sunshine: Lover of Love

“... What really matters is that he will love you, that he will respect you, that he will honor you, that he will be absolutely true to you, that he will give you the freedom of expression and let you fly in the development of your own talents. He is not going to be perfect, but if he is kind and thoughtful, if he knows how to work and earn a living, if he is honest and full of faith, the chances are you will not go wrong, that you will be immensely happy.”- Gordon B. Hinckley
I'm a self proclaimed lover of love. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever find that "perfect" love. Unfortunately life isn't a Disney movie. But this quote gives me hope that when we try, when we love, we can get pretty darn close, and maybe even a little bit better.
May your Sunday be full of sunshine:)

San FranCRISCO

In order to remember how to spell SAN FRANCISCO, I spell it San FranCRISCO, apparently crisco doesn't only fix creeky doors and wrinkles, but grammatical errors as well.

Anywho...the land of crisco was lovely. Penitentiaries, trees, baseball, and of course...shopping. Tomorrow I shall attempt to fashion blog and chronicle some treasures from my trip. Note "attempt"...this whole "put pictures of my clothed body on the internet" is difficult for me. But I will learn one day. For those of you who choose to bare with me...my sincere thanks.

Sunday Sunshine: Fly in my Cookie

I went to my new favorite place this weekend... "Smart Cookie" where you can buy ONE cookie for ONE dollar...AKA BUY 5 COOKIES FOR 5 DOLLARS...and eat them all at once. It is quite the fulfilling experience. However as pictured above...a fly flew straight into my cookie. So naturally, I decided to write about such an interesting event.
We all essentially have a "fly in our cookie" some peoples flies are a bigger then others, some you can't even see on the surface.  But either way, there is always going to be a fly. So no matter what we should just enjoy the cookie anyway. Is anyone understanding my metaphor?
If not here is the debriefing: we all have trials, they are all different, but thats ok because we are all in the same boat, but in this case "cookie". Love your cookie because it's yours, and when you start feeling bad for yourself take a bight of the person next to yours cookie and I assure you you will want your cookie back.
And with that...I am of to San Fran land. Will I be posting? I haven't a clue. Will I enjoy my cookie? Dang straight.

Trash is my Treasure

You know that saying, "One man's trash is another's treasure?" Story of my life people. I picked up this old blue book beauty at one of my fav vintage consignment shops and have begun the mass creation of what I am calling an "art journal". This little blue book has taken over the life of Mallory Henderson. Hey I'm no Picasso people, but a girls gotta vent somehow.

On another "trashy" note...I picked up some thrifted college dorm lovelies this weekend. All consisting of a coca-cola tray, vintage camera (that I am obsessssssssed with), and a lovely number 47 thing-a-mabob. How will I mash all of this vintage goodness into one cohesive dorm look? Tune in mid August to see!
Have a fabulous Summer day. I for one and headed to the BYU creamery for ICE CREAMMMM. What a content life I live. Trash and ice cream. Could it get any better? I think not.

Sunday Sunshine: Coloring Books aren't Just for Little Kids

As I sat in church today I noticed two little girls coloring in their coloring books. I had a moment. I so badly wanted to color in that magical coloring book of princesses. However, being the "mature" young adult that I am I resisted my urge and sat and pondered my wacky thoughts instead.
I thought about life. And why I wasn't smart enough to bring a coloring book to church. But mostly life.
When we are young, we are free to imagine and dream whatever we desire. I for one dreamed of being a cashier at a grocery store as well as a professional manikin. (I dreamed big) But as we grow older others tell us we aren't good enough, that our dreams don't make sense. Eventually, we have not a drop of magical dust left in our little souls. And I think that is a pity.
God wants us to be everything thing that we can be, everything that we want to be. So be it.
Because coloring books aren't just for little kids.

Hot Hot Hot

Shirt: TJ. Max/ Shorts: J. crew/ Necklace: J. crew/ Shoes: Old Navy (sale)

There are many little lovelies about July. You eat hot dogs, watch fireworks, sit in the pool and completely destroy your hair all day, and tan your poor body all day. But one of my favorite things about July is the fact the you can wear red, white, and blue and be totally fine on the fashion radar!
I recently got this shirt on sale from TJ. Max and am soooo happy I did! It is super light and lets the wind blow right up it...which is always a nice touch on those hot summer days. Here I come 99 degrees! WAHOOOOO. Yay for air conditioning and randomly opening my refrigerator door to combat my July "hot flashes". May your July 10th be...HOT HOT HOT!

The Librarian Dream

Top: J.crew/ Sweater: Zara/ Skirt: Anthropologie(sale)/ Glasses: Urban Outfitters/ Necklace: Childhood

Sometimes I like to dress like a librarian. I love the library, so full of books and yummy smells. When I was a little girl we had an old English librarian at our school who would read to us in her little accent; and that is when the dream began. Perhaps this corky number will bring me closer to my dream?
This is also a great way to "wear" a sweater in the summer heat! You can look like an old lady and be semi-fashionable these days! Wow. How I love this thing called fashion.

Sunday Sunshine: The Widow

(A greek widow I met in Greece)

I have decided to begin a special blog tradition for Sunday's, AKA "Sunday sunshine", to feature my spiritual thoughts for the week and bring a little sunshine into your week (hopefully) as well.
Proverbs 31:25 "Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come."
So often we as women get caught up in the "perfect" blouse at the department store or the never ending stream of new beauty products, all promising never-ending satisfaction and happiness. (I know this because I am one of those women.)  Then reality hits. You buy the shirt, the dress, the lipstick, the whatever and feel this magical euphoric sensation lasting about 5 minutes and its gone. The things we buy are not what bring us happiness, but the "strength and honor" of which we carry in ourselves through the Savior, Jesus Christ.

I met this Greek widow in a small alley way in Mykonos, Greece. She is virtually left with nothing, if very little at the end of her long life. She now can see what is important in her life, what truly mattered. Not the clothes, or the perfect flow of her hair; but her heart. Let's all try to be old widows this week and remember what truly matters!
May your Sunday be full of sunshine:)

The Hole and The Underwear Man.

Top: J. crew (sale)/ Skirt: J.crew (sale)/ Necklace: J. crew Belt: J. crew /Shoes: Zara /
My
Face: Original

Apparently I am liking J. crew??? What an ugly store. On another note I am also loving finding nude men changing in the woods. (In a very non creeper way-thus the reason I took a "discrete" picture) Watch out Draper...there is an underwear man on the loose in the woods.
And yet another random ramble there is a hole in my shirt. But as you can see above I just modeled it awkward style. Maybe the armpit hole will become a trend...which practically it should be. It gets so hot in the summer in Utah that holes in the armpits could be quite breezy and refreshing!
May your day too be filled with underwear and armpit holes!
